Bermuda is made up of a cluster of coral islands which are
connecting by a series of bridges and causeways. The
island is very accessible to North America and the UK.
There are regular flights to all the main gateway cities - New
York, Boston, Atlanta, Toronto, Halifax and London UK to name a
few.
The Capital of Bermuda is the City of Hamilton, where most of
the international businesses have their offices located.
Hamilton is the "hub" of Bermuda where most people go
to work, eat and shop. Workers tend to commute to Hamilton
by ferry, bus, scooter or car.
Bermuda is located in the mid Atlantic Ocean, approximately 650
miles from the North Carolina coast. It has the gulf
stream waters passing very near by creating a mild subtropical
climate. The hottest summer months are from May to
October, with temperatures typically ranging from 24C (75F) to
32C (90F). Humidity levels are fairly high during the
summer months, however, levels decrease during the winter
months, when temperatures are generally cooler. The
average winter temperatures from January to March are typically
16C (60F) to 22C (70F).
The local Bermudians are known for their hospitality,
friendliness, and helpfulness. The population of Bermuda
is approximately 65000 with 55% of the population being black,
34% are white and the rest being a mix of races.
Approximately 8000 that make up the populations are work permit
holders/expatriates from all over the world.
Due to the subtropical climate, Bermuda is in the enviable
position of enjoying many different types of sports and outdoor
activities all year round. It is considered a great winter
sports destination for tennis and golf. Other sport
activities include volley ball on the beach, cricket, football
and cycling. During the summer months snorkelling, scuba
diving, sailing and boating are many of the favourite pastimes.
The social scene in Bermuda has a laid back island atmosphere
and is mainly comprised of nightclubs, pubs, bars and dining
out. There is a wide range of restaurants to choose from
and many expatriates can be found enjoying happy hour on Friday
evenings at the various pubs and bars.
