     Bermuda Overview

Bermuda is made up of a cluster of coral islands which are connecting by a series of bridges and causeways.  The island is very accessible to North America and the UK.  There are regular flights to all the main gateway cities - New York, Boston, Atlanta, Toronto, Halifax and London UK to name a few.

The Capital of Bermuda is the City of Hamilton, where most of the international businesses have their offices located.  Hamilton is the "hub" of Bermuda where most people go to work, eat and shop.  Workers tend to commute to Hamilton by ferry, bus, scooter or car.

Bermuda is located in the mid Atlantic Ocean, approximately 650 miles from the North Carolina coast.  It has the gulf stream waters passing very near by creating a mild subtropical climate.  The hottest summer months are from May to October, with temperatures typically ranging from 24C (75F) to 32C (90F).  Humidity levels are fairly high during the summer months, however, levels decrease during the winter months, when temperatures are generally cooler.  The average winter temperatures from January to March are typically 16C (60F) to 22C (70F).

The local Bermudians are known for their hospitality, friendliness, and helpfulness.  The population of Bermuda is approximately 65000 with 55% of the population being black, 34% are white and the rest being a mix of races.  Approximately 8000 that make up the populations are work permit holders/expatriates from all over the world.

Due to the subtropical climate, Bermuda is in the enviable position of enjoying many different types of sports and outdoor activities all year round.  It is considered a great winter sports destination for tennis and golf.  Other sport activities include volley ball on the beach, cricket, football and cycling.  During the summer months snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing and boating are many of the favourite pastimes.

The social scene in Bermuda has a laid back island atmosphere and is mainly comprised of nightclubs, pubs, bars and dining out.  There is a wide range of restaurants to choose from and many expatriates can be found enjoying happy hour on Friday evenings at the various pubs and bars.
