Bermuda has a booming economy primarily driven by the international business sector and tourism.  As a result, the island benefits from one of the highest standard of living in the world.

The Bermuda dollar is the main currency of the island and it is kept on par with the US dollar.  In fact, both the US and Bermuda dollar is in circulation on the island.  The local banks deal with all other major currencies.

Tourism accounts for approximately 28% of gross domestic product (GDP) and an estimated 400,000 tourists visit the island each year either by airline or cruise ship.

International business accounts for approximately 60% of Bermuda's GDP and it is estimated that there are 10,000 international businesses on the island primarily from the financial services sector.

Bermuda is also considered one of the premier insurance and re-insurance centres in the world on par with Lloyds of London and New York.  Since the September 11th terrorist attacks Bermuda has benefited greatly from a major influx of capital from numerous start up insurance and re-insurance companies who have  formed a presence on the island.  In addition to the insurance/re-insurance business, Bermuda is home to many offshore private investment holding and hedge fund companies.
